Hempstead, NY – Hofstra Men's Lacrosse graduate-student
Mark Ellis was selected by the New York Lizards in the 2019 Major League Lacrosse Rookie Selection Draft, via conference call, last Friday.
Ellis, a native of Garden City, New York, was one of twenty-four players who were selected across four-rounds by the six teams. The Rookie Selection Draft was for any collegiate player who was not selected in the Collegiate Draft.
Ellis came to Hofstra in January 2018 after graduating from Stony Brook University. In his two seasons with the Pride, he played in all 28 games as a defensive midfielder and recorded three goals and one assist, picked up 43 ground balls and forced 14 turnovers. In 2019, Ellis, a co-captain, recorded two goals, against Utah and Ohio State, and one assist against Stony Brook. He posted 18 ground balls and forced six turnovers. He was also a CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll selection.
At Stony Brook, he played in 30 games over the 2014 and 2015 seasons before red-shirting 2016 and sitting out 2017 with an injury. He tallied two goals, two assists, eight ground balls and three caused turnovers with the Seawolves.
Ellis, who received his bachelor's degree in multidisciplinary studies from Stony Brook in 2017, is expected to receive his master's degree in sports science from Hofstra in May. He is a graduate of Garden City (NY) High School where he was a three-sport athlete competing in lacrosse, football and indoor track. He was a member of two state championship teams at Garden City.
