BB: Hofstra To Take On Local Rivals Iona and Fordham This Weekend

3/6/2019 4:07:00 PM

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra University Baseball team will return to action this week with a revised schedule of games at Fordham University. Hofstra's originally scheduled home opener against Iona on Thursday has been cancelled due to the snow on the field and frigid temperatures forecasted that day.

The Pride will now face Iona on Friday at 3 p.m. at Fordham's Houlihan Park and will then take on Fordham on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m. Live statistics for all three games will be available and the games against Fordham will be available to view via ESPN+.

Hofstra is 2-6 on the season after a 1-3 showing at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The team defeated Saint Peter's and suffered losses to Pittsburgh, Central Michigan and Butler. Ryan Rue earned his first career win against the Peacocks, going six innings and allowing two runs with five strikeouts. Michael James turned in a stellar outing against Pitt, throwing seven scoreless frames with five strikeouts in what would be a 1-0 loss.

Offensively, Anthony D'Onofrio went 7-16 on the weekend with two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored. Rob Weissheier 6-12 with four RBIs and two runs scored, while Austin Gauthier had six hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs. Vito Friscia collected five hits over the weekend, including his first home run of the season, and scored five runs.

Iona is 0-9 on the season and is coming off two losses at UNC Asheville this past Saturday. Hofstra is 14-19 all-time against the Gaels.

Fordham is 5-6 on the year and won three of four games last weekend at Maryland Eastern Shore. The Pride is 24-31 all-time against the Rams.

Hofstra is expected to start Brad Camarda (1-1) against the Gaels and Rue (1-1) against the Rams on Saturday. Sunday's starter is TBA.

Following the weekend series, the Pride will return to action next weekend at Liberty.
