MLAX: Hofstra Wraps Up Homestand Against Providence On Saturday

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men's Lacrosse team will wrap-up their five-game homestand this Saturday, March 16 when the Pride host the Friars of Providence College at James M. Shuart Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m.

Hofstra has wins over Lehigh, Utah, and most recently, St. John's this past Tuesday, and losses to nationally-ranked Villanova, Georgetown and Ohio State as well as Stony Brook. Pride juniors Ryan Kinnard and Ryan Tierney each tallied three goals and sophomore goalie Bobby Casey made 15 saves to lead Hofstra to a 9-7 victory over the Red Storm. Tierney, who also tallied two assists for the Pride, posted his fourth hat-trick of the season and extended his consecutive points and goals streak to seven contests. Kinnard recorded his first career hat-trick. Sophomore Brian Herber won 14 of 18 face-offs for Hofstra and picked up a game-high 10 ground balls. Casey recorded double-digit saves for the fourth time this season.

The Pride is led in scoring by junior Ryan Tierney with 18 goals and four assists while Kinnard now has eight goals. Freshman Whit Stopak, who did not play against St. John's due to injury, also has eight goals. Sophomore Riley Forte has four goals and three assists while freshman Matt Elder has tallied two goals and four assists.  Sophomore goalie Bobby Casey has a 9.82 goals against average with 74 saves and a .517 save percentage.

The Friars of Providence are 2-4 on the season with wins over Holy Cross (12-5) and Saint Joseph's (14-5) and losses to Boston University (8-7), Bryant (11-8), Sacred Heart (17-16) and , most recently, Harvard (9-8). The Friars average 10.83 goals per game and allow 9.17 per contest. In the Harvard contest, senior Nick Hatzipetrakos scored four goals and junior Tim Hinrichs added two assists to lead PC. Senior Tate Boyce made nine saves in the Friars goal.

Providence is led by senior Brendan Kearns with 13 goals and six assists while Hatzipetrakos has a team-high 18 goals. Freshman Matt Grillo has chipped in 11 goals and seven assists. Hinrichs has four goals and a team-high 11 assists. Boyce has recorded a 9.26 goals against average with 73 saves and a .570 save percentage.
 
Hofstra and Providence will be meeting for the ninth time on Saturday with the Pride holding a 7-1 series lead. The two teams met last in 2018 in Providence with the Pride posting a 12-8 victory over the Friars. Hofstra and Providence last met on Long Island in 2017 with the Pride edging the Friars, 11-10.

After the Providence game, Hofstra will return to action on Saturday, March 23 when the Pride head over to New Jersey to face the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. Game time is 1 p.m.
