Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University men's soccer team placed seven players on the 2019 All-Colonial Athletic Association teams, highlighted by first team selection
Matthew Vowinkel, as the league announced the selections today. The teams were chosen in a vote of the conference's nine head coaches.
In addition to Vowinkel, the Pride saw co-captains
George O'Malley and
Luca Tausch, and
Petter Soelberg earn All-CAA Second Team accolades and
Oscar Ramsay,
Alex Ashton and
Frederik Rieper garner All-CAA Third Team honors. Rieper was also named to the league's all-rookie team.
Vowinkel (New Hyde Park, NY), a junior forward, leads the Pride with 12 goals and 26 points on the season. He closed the regular season on a tear with eight goals and an assist in the final four games. The 12 goals and 26 points are both career highs. Vowinkel ranks second in the CAA and 12th in the nation in goals.
O'Malley (Harrow, England), a junior defender, helped lead a Pride defense that posted six shutouts on the season. The Pride were especially strong down the stretch holding the opposition to just four goals in six games. He also added three goals and an assist on the season. O'Malley was an all-rookie selection in 2017.
Tausch (Freiburg, Germany), a sophomore midfielder, was a CAA All-Rookie Team selection last season. This season he has been a fixture in the Pride lineup, contributing both offensively and defensively, and has two assists on the season.
Soelberg (Stockholm, Sweden) makes the All-CAA Second Team in his first season on the Pride after transferring from South Carolina. The junior midfielder ranks second on the team in scoring with six goals and two assists for 14 points.
Ashton (Telford, England) repeats as the third team goalkeeper after tallying a 9-5-2 record, a 1.30 goals against average, and 47 saves. Ashton, a graduate student, has five solo shutouts on the season. Â
Ramsay (Auckland, New Zealand), a senior midfielder, earns his first postseason accolade after recording three assists in 16 games played. He also has been a steady contributor on the defensive side of the ball as well.
Rieper (Aarhus, Denmark) started all 17 games during the regular season and the 6-5 center back has been a key cog in the Pride's defensive system. He has also been a threat on the offensive end, recording four goals and one assist for nine points.
Hofstra (9-6-2), the third seed in the 2019 CAA Championship, will be in action Friday at 1 p.m. in the quarterfinals against #6 Delaware. The game will be played at Sentara Park in Harrisonburg, Virginia.Â
