FH: Hofstra Begins CAA Schedule This Weekend

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Field Hockey Team begins its 2018 Colonial Athletic Association schedule this weekend with the conference opener at the Tigers of Towson on Friday, September 28 before returning back to Long Island on Sunday, September 30 to host the Tribe of William and Mary. On Friday, game time at Towson's Johnny Unitas Stadium is 3 p.m. while Sunday's contest at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium is scheduled for noon.

Hofstra enters the CAA season with a 2-9 record following a 1-2 week that included a 2-1 shootout victory over Sacred Heart on September 18 and losses to Rider, 10-4, and Lock Haven, 5-2, this past weekend. In New Haven against Sacred Heart, red-shirt sophomore Madison Georgiana scored the Pride's only goal in a four-hour, lightning-delayed contest. Senior Madison Sauve tallied the only shootout goal to give Hofstra the win. On Friday against Rider, the Broncs scored five times in each half to cruise to victory. Georgiana, freshman Djuna Slort, sophomore Frankie O'Brien and senior Samantha Schlegel tallied the goals for the Pride. On Sunday against Lock Haven, Hofstra graduate-student Valerie Vogels scored two goals but Lock Haven scored four of the first five goals in the 5-2 decision.

On the season, Hofstra is led in scoring by Madison Georgiana and freshman Cami Larsson with two goals and two assists for six points. Senior Madison Reed leads the team with five assists. Slort and Vogels each have two goals for the Pride. Freshman goalie Betty Bosma has started all 11 games and has recorded a 3.57 goals against average with 86 saves and a .677 save percentage.

Towson enters its CAA opener on Friday with a 1-7 record and has dropped the last three games. The Tigers are led by Katie McNeel with four goals and one assist for nine points while Kasey Bubel, Nathalie Tortolero and Beira Ho each have a goal and an assist. Towson has shared the goalkeeping duties between two goalies with Mackenzie Peacock having a 3.34 goals against average and 37 saves in six games and Ashleigh Bathras posting a 3.80 goals against average with four saves in three games. Hofstra is 27-11 all-time against the Tigers and have won the last seven encounters.

William and Mary is 3-4 on the year and has dropped its last two games as they head into their CAA opener at Northeastern on Friday. The Tribe is led by Estelle Hughes with seven goals and two assists, Annie Snead with two goals and four assists and Christie van de Kamp with two goals and two assists. Goalie Morgan Connor has a 3.78 goals against average with 30 saves. William and Mary leads the all-time series with Hofstra, 13-7 and has won the last two meetings.

Following the William and Mary contest, the Pride will continue with their four-game homestand as they host the Huskies of Northeastern in a CAA contest on Friday, October 5 at 3 p.m.
