Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team returned to Cindy Lewis Stadium following three consecutive road games, but visiting Fairfield handed the Pride a 5-1 defeat on Friday. The Pride drops to 5-7 following the loss, and Fairfield improves to 8-4 on the season.
The Stags opened the scoring 6:55 into the first quarter on a penalty corner goal, and the visitors added a pair in the second quarter to make it a 3-0 score. Fairfield added a fourth goal in the third quarter and their fifth and final tally of the contest in the fourth quarter. The Pride prevented a shutout loss with a late goal in the fourth quarter by
Teresa Karoff on a penalty corner attempt, finishing off passes from
Riley MacIntosh and
Gwenn van Dijk.
Luci Hollister played the first three quarters and made nine saves, while
Tessa Lambright tallied four saves in the fourth quarter.
Hofstra returns to the turf again on Sunday, October 12, at 12 p.m. to host Wagner.
NOTES:
-Hofstra finished with four shots and four penalty corners, with Karoff and van Dijk leading the Pride with two shots each.
-Karoff's goal was her sixth of the season, a new single-season high for her.
-Hofstra's all-time record now stands at 30-11 against Fairfield.
