9/17/2018 12:00:00 PM

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Field Hockey team will continue their busy September with three more games this week as the Pride prepare for the start of the Colonial Athletic Association schedule which begins in less than two weeks.

Before the Pride get to the CAA schedule, Hofstra will travel to New Haven, Connecticut on Tuesday, September 18 to face the Pioneers of Sacred Heart at Yale University's Johnson Field at noon. Hofstra will then return home to the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium for games on Friday, September 21 against Rider at 3 p.m. and Sunday, September 23 against Lock Haven at noon.

Sacred Heart will provide live stats through Presto Sports on Tuesday. Hofstra will provide live stats through HofstraStats.com against Rider and Lock Haven and live audio streaming through Pride Productions on Friday against the Broncs of Rider. WRHU-FM student-broadcasters Gabriel Salzman and Mike Amorouso will describe the action on Friday.

Hofstra enters the week with a 1-7 record after dropping a 1-0 decision to Fairfield last Wednesday and a 5-1 decision to Columbia on Saturday. The Pride has dropped seven consecutive contests since their season-opening 3-2 shootout victory over VCU on August 24. Against Fairfield, Pride freshman goalie Betty Bosma made nine saves but a Stags goal near the end of the first half stood tall in the Hofstra loss. Saturday at Columbia, the Lions scored three times in the first half and twice more in the second half to cruise over the Pride. Hofstra freshman Djuna Slort scored the Pride goal while Bosma had nine saves and sophomore Frankie O'Brien added three defensive saves.

Hofstra is led by freshman Cami Larsson with two goals, while sophomore Hannah Zemaitis and Slort each have one. Bosma now has 71 saves and a 3.34 goals against average in eight games this season

Sacred Heart is 6-3 on the season and has won four of their last six contests. They are coming off a 4-1 loss to UMass Lowell on Sunday in New Haven. The Pioneers are led by junior Colleen McAninley with four goals and three assists and senior Allie Brouhard with three goals and two assists. Sophomore Hailey Power has played all but almost 11 minutes this season and has posted a 2.24 goals against average with 76 saves and a .792 save percentage. Hofstra is 15-0 in the all-time series against Sacred Heart. The two teams met last year in Hempstead with the Pride winning, 4-1.

The Broncs of Rider enter the week with a 3-3 record and have won the last two games including a 3-0 victory over Saint Francis (PA) on Sunday in Lawrenceville, NJ. Rider is led by junior Tess Coorens with five goals and one assist and sophomore Marion Waterkeyn with three goals and three assists. Sophomore Lena Vandam has recorded a 2.44 goals against average with 26 saves and a.634 save percentage while playing all six games. Friday's game will be the 27th meeting between Hofstra and Rider with the Pride holding a 14-12 series lead. Hofstra defeated the Broncs, 3-2 in Hempstead last year.

Lock Haven, a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, is 4-3 on the year and has won three of the last five contests. The Eagles are coming off a 4-3 loss at Massachusetts on Sunday and will face LIU Brooklyn on Friday before the Hofstra game. Lock Haven is led by senior Tamia Roach with five goals and two assists while classmate Alyscia Smith has four goals and four assists. Red-shirt junior Brianna DeAngelis has a 1.67 goals against average with 27 saves and a .692 save percentage while playing in all seven contests.

Following the Lock Haven contest, the Pride will travel to Maryland to face the Tigers of Towson in the CAA opener on Friday, September 28 at 3 p.m.
