Hempstead, NY – Hofstra Wrestling alumnus Charles Griffin will be one of 10 individuals who will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association (PWCA) Hall of Fame, Class of 2019 in May, 2019.
The PWCA Class of 2019 marks the 50
th consecutive year that the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association has inducted a class of deserving individuals. The banquet and induction ceremonies will be held at the Mountainview Country Club in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania on Sunday, May 19 beginning at 12:30 p.m. with a hospitality hour. A banquet meal will follow beginning at 1:30 p.m. with the induction of new members starting promptly at 2:30 p.m.
Griffin, a four-time NCAA Championship qualifier and a two-time All-American placing third in 2007 and 2008, was a three-time Colonial Athletic Association champion winning the 133-lb. title in 2005 and the 141-lb. titles in 2006 and 2007. Voted the CAA Rookie of the year in 2005 and the CAA Wrestler of the Year in both 2007 and 2008, Griffin was selected to the CAA Wrestling Silver Anniversary Team. Griffin, who received the 2008 Howdy Myers Award as the University's Outstanding Male Athlete, finished his collegiate wrestling career with a 126-25 record and earned a bachelor's degree in 2008.
A 2004 graduate of Reading High School, Griffin was a four-time section champion (2001-2004) and a three-time District III tournament finalist, winning titles in 2002 and 2003. He qualified for the PIAA Class AAA Championships three times where he captured the 2003 PIAA state title at 125 pounds before finishing second in 2004. Griffin finished his high school career with a 123-22 won-loss record.
Griffin will be inducted along with Tom Best, Jr., Tom Best, Sr., Tom Bold, Vince DeAugustine, Bruce Haselrig, Tom Hontz, Greg Jones, Floyd Marshall, and Tom Tomeo. The PWCA Class of 2019 marks the 50
th consecutive year that the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association has inducted a class of deserving individuals since 1970. The Hall of Fame committee will be inviting all past Hall of Fame members to this year's event to commemorate the 50
th anniversary celebration.
