11/15/2018 2:30:00 PM

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney today announced his 14-game, 2019 Pride schedule. The Hofstra schedule includes eight home games, six road games and three contests against teams that played in the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament last May.

"I believe the 2019 Hofstra Men's Lacrosse schedule is an exciting and challenging slate of opponents both at home and on the road," Tierney said. "We have NCAA Tournament teams Georgetown and UMass coming into James M. Shuart Stadium as well as 2017 NCAA finalist Ohio State and local rivals Stony Brook and St. John's. Our road slate is equally tough with NCAA team Villanova, and Rutgers, Towson and Lehigh to name a few. We will see many good teams both at home and on the road this season."

The Pride, who will play their earliest regular season opener ever, kick off the season on the road on Saturday, February 9 against the Mountain Hawks of Lehigh. Hofstra returns to James M. Shuart Stadium for their home opener against the Utes of the University of Utah on Saturday, February 16. It is the first season of competition for Utah in 2019.

Hofstra will face its first of three 2018 NCAA Tournament teams on Saturday, February 23 when the Pride travel to face Big East opponent, the Wildcats of Villanova. Hofstra wraps up the month of February and starts a five-game homestand on Tuesday, February 26 when they host Long Island-rival the Seawolves of Stony Brook.

Competition in March kicks off on Saturday, March 2 when the Hoyas of Georgetown, coached by Hofstra alumnus Kevin Warne, visiting Shuart Stadium. The Hoyas captured the Big East title last year and will be the Pride's second NCAA Tournament opponent from a year ago.

The Big Ten shows up on the Pride schedule on Saturday, March 9 when the Buckeyes of Ohio State return to Shuart Stadium for the first time since their 2017 NCAA Quarterfinal win over Duke on their way to the NCAA Championship game. Hofstra will wrap up their five-game homestand with two games against Big East opponents in the Red Storm of St. John's on Tuesday, March 12, and the Friars of Providence on Saturday, March 16. Hofstra will conclude its non-conference schedule on the road on Saturday, March 23 against its second Big 10 opponent in the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers.

The Pride will begin its Colonial Athletic Associate season with alternating road and home game beginning on Saturday, March 30 at Towson. 2018 CAA champions and NCAA Championship participant Massachusetts comes to Shuart Stadium on Saturday, April 6. The Pride travels to Delaware the following week for a date against the Blue Hens on Saturday, April 13.

Hofstra closes out their home schedule on Saturday, April 20 against Drexel on Senior Day before returning to the road for the CAA regular season finale at Fairfield on Friday, April 26. The CAA Championship tournament, featuring the top four teams from the regular season, will be held at the site of the top seed on May 2 and 4.

The NCAA Championship tournament first round begins on campus sites on Saturday, May 11. For the 11th time in school history, Hofstra will once again host a NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship quarterfinal doubleheader at Shuart Stadium on Saturday, May 18, 2019. The University of Hartford will host the other NCAA quarterfinal on Sunday, May 19 at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut. The semifinals and championship game will be played at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Pride will have two preseason scrimmages, traveling to Syracuse on January 26 and hosting Hobart on Saturday, February 2.
