The Pride opened their season last Friday with a 3-0 loss at Lafayette College. Hofstra struggled getting the offense in gear and allowed the Leopards a goal in the first half and two in the second period. The Pride bounced back on Sunday jumping out to a 2-0 lead against UMass Lowell with junior
Madison Sauve and freshman
Frankie O'Brien scoring the home goals. But the River Hawks responded with two goals by Anouk Lalande before halftime to knot the contest. But Hofstra freshman
Philine de Wolf notched her first collegiate goal with just 8:16 to play in the second half to break the tie and give the Pride the victory. Hofstra senior goalie
Carys Swan made seven saves in the victory.
Hofstra started four freshmen in each of the first two games as the Pride coaching staff continues to work to jell the 12 returnees with the 11 newcomers this season. After getting their legs for the second game of the year, Hofstra outshot UMass Lowell, 20-11 including 13-1 in the second half.
The Pride will be meeting the Saints of Siena for the 13
th time on Wednesday. Hofstra has won every previous meeting. Wednesday's meeting will be the first encounter between Hofstra and Siena since a 10-0 Pride victory in 2011. Gabe Salzman and Cristian Scovell will describe the action on Pride Productions.
Hofstra will be meeting Fairfield for the 35
th time on Friday. The Pride-Stags series is the second longest series in Hofstra Field Hockey history. Only the Hofstra-Towson series is longer, standing at 37 games. The Pride lead the Fairfield series, 29-5 including a 6-5 thriller in Hempstead last season.
The Pride will be meeting the Wildcats of New Hampshire for the ninth time on Sunday. UNH holds a 6-2 series lead. The two teams last met in 2014 with the Wildcats posting a 7-1 victory in Durham.
