Hempstead, NY - Following a dominant week, Hofstra University junior pitcher Chris Weiss has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week. The award is the first of Weiss' career. In addition, Weiss was also named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week.

Weiss allowed just one hit over 8 1/3 shutout innings and struck out 13 batters with no walks in three relief appearances last week. The junior right-hander picked up the win in Hofstra's 5-2 victory over first-place Northeastern on Sunday after giving up one hit and no runs over the final 5 1/3 innings while matching a career-high with seven strikeouts. He also threw two perfect innings versus Manhattan with four strikeouts and one inning in the opener against Northeastern, fanning two.

The Ridge, New York, native leads the Pride with a 4-2 record in 21 appearances. He also has one save and has recorded 48 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings of work. Opposing batters are hitting just .184 against him. 

Hofstra is back in action Tuesday afternoon against Fordham. Game time at University Field is 3 p.m.
