Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team will close the 2017 campaign on Friday when it hosts Stony Brook.
First draw control from James M. Shuart Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. Prior to the game the program will honor its four seniors as Friday marks the final game in the careers of
Audrey Byrd,
Becky Conto,
Alexis Greene and
Morgan Knox.
There will be Pride Productions live video/audio of Friday's game with the link available on this page or via the women's lacrosse schedule page at GoHofstra.com. There will also be live statistics available and they can be accessed in the same locations.
Hofstra will bring an 8-7 overall record into Friday's encounter with its Long Island neighbor. The Pride has won two of its last three games, including wins over #13 Towson and William & Mary over the last couple weeks.
Freshman
Alyssa Parrella has put together one of the top seasons in program history as she currently leads Hofstra in every statistical category. Parrella has 47 goals, 29 assists, 76 points, 53 draw controls, 38 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers. The duo of senior
Becky Conto and junior
Drew Shapiro have contributed nicely on offense for the Pride as Conto has 36 goals and seven assists, while Shapiro has 33 goals and six assists.
Defensively, junior
Shea McAvoy is second on the team in both ground balls and caused turnovers with 33 and 17, respectively. Freshman
Alexa Mattera and Shapiro are tied for second on the team with 26 draw controls.
The nationally-ranked Seawolves are currently 14-1 this season and coming off a 19-8 win over UMBC on April 22. Kylie and Taryn Ohlmiller are Stony Brook's leading scorers this season as Kylie has 112 points on 54 goals and 58 assists, while Taryn has posted 67 points on 39 goals and 28 assists.
Hofstra leads the all-time series with Stony Brook, 5-3.
