WLAX: Hofstra Seeks Third Straight Win On Saturday

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team will be looking for its third straight victory on Saturday when it hosts Central Connecticut State.

Opening draw control from James M. Shuart Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m. The game is part of a Hofstra Lacrosse doubleheader as the men's team will host St. John's at 7 p.m.

The game will serve as alumnae day for the Pride and in addition at halftime the 1996 team will be honored. The 1996 team went 13-3 overall and was a perfect 6-0 in North Atlantic Conference play. At that time it ranked as the most wins in a single season in program history and the 13 victories still ranks third in a single season. At one point during the season the team won nine straight games and they would conclude the season with victories over Vermont and Towson State to capture the North Atlantic Conference Championship.

There will be Pride Productions live video (no audio) of the game with the link available on this page or via the women's lacrosse schedule page at GoHofstra.com. There will also be live statistics available and they can be accessed in the same locations.

Hofstra (4-3) has won two straight, including a 13-10 win over New Hampshire on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Becky Conto was the star offensively for the Pride in the game as she posted a career-best five points on four goals and one assist. Sophomore Lexi Lenaghan and freshman Alyssa Parrella also added to the offense as both had identical four-point games on three goals and one assist. Parrella keyed the draw controls as she had a season-best nine for the Pride.

Parrella is the leading scorer for Hofstra this season with 35 points on 25 goals and 10 assists. She leads the team in all three categories and is tops on the squad with 23 draw controls. Junior Drew Shapiro ranks second with 20 points on 14 goals and six assists and Lenaghan has totaled 19 points on 16 goals and three assists.

Junior Shea McAvoy has team-highs of 24 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers this season, while sophomore Maddie Fields has all four victories in net for the Pride to go along with a 11.14 goals against average and a save percentage of .414.

Hofstra's four victories are already more than the three they had in 2016.

Central Connecticut State is 1-6 this season and are coming off a 12-7 loss to La Salle on March 17. Megan Szawlowski leads the Blue Devils with 27 points on 14 goals and 13 assists. Marissa Soto has a team-high 17 goals for CCSU. Courtney McPartland is tops on the team with 27 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers and ranks second with 15 draw controls. Szawlowski has 21 draw controls to lead the team. Jackie Branthover has played every minute in net for Central Connecticut State and has a goals against average of 13.04 and a save percentage of .452.

Hofstra and Central Connecticut State have only met once before as the Pride captured a 17-5 victory over the Blue Devils in 2014.
