Alan Hetherington finished in 148
th place to lead the Hofstra Men's Cross Country team to a 32
nd-place finish in the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Northeast Regional Championship at the Audubon Golf Course Friday afternoon.
Hetherington, who led the Pride in all five meets this season, posted a time of 34:48.0 in the 10K regional. Fellow classmate
Austin Jenkins was Hofstra's second finisher, posting a time of 35:55.7 to finish in 200
th place. Freshman Marc Meltzer clocked a time of 36:28.0 to finish in 216
th place while classmate
Oluwafikunayomi Ibironke placed 224
th in 36:45.2. Sophomore Dante Perez posted a time of 37:03.5 to finish in 233
rd place and senior
Rodney Chirchir was 246
th in 37:44.
As a team, Hofstra finished in 32
nd place with 1012 points in the 37-team field. Syracuse won the team title with 28 points and putting all five of their scoring runners in the top 11 spots. Iona, which placed five of its runners in the top 17, was second with 48 points and Army West Point was third with 218 points. Stony Brook (222) and Columbia (223) rounded out the top five.
Syracuse senior Justyn Knight (31:43.4) edged his teammate and classmate Colin Bennie (31:44.9) by just 1.5 seconds for the individual title. Iona senior Johannes Motschmann was third in 31:47.9
