Earlysville, VA – Junior
Alan Hetherington finished 90th to lead the Hofstra Men's Cross Country team to a 13th-place team finish at the University of Virginia Panorama Farms Invitational Friday morning.
Hetherington posted an 8K time of 27:20 for 75 points to lead the Pride. Senior
Jack Finlayson was just four seconds (27:24) behind Hetherington in 91st place (76 points). Senior
Riley Leder was Hofstra's third finisher, posting a time of 27:51 to place 98th (81 points) while junior
Rodney Chirchir was 100th in 28:23 for 83 team points. Junior
Austin Jenkins was the Pride's final scorer, placing 101st (84 points) in 28:28 while senior
Michael Simon completed the Hofstra team, placing 103rd (86 points) in 28:41.
Syracuse junior Justyn Knight was the individual champion, posting a time of 23:18. But BYU won the team title by placing all five of their scoring runners in the top 13 to accumulate 39 points. Syracuse was second with 44 points while Virginia was third with 82 points. Hofstra finished 13th with 399 points in the 14-team field.
The Hofstra team will return to action on Saturday, October 8 when the Pride will face Wagner, St. Peter's and the host Highlanders of New Jersey Institute of Technology in dual meets in the Highlander Challenge in Newark, New Jersey.
