Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra will resume Colonial Athletic Association play by engaging Elon in a three-game weekend road series, starting Saturday in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. from Hunt Softball Park. The teams will wrap the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
All three games will feature live video from Elon that can be accessed on
Pride Productions.
Live statistics will also be available.
Hofstra is 17-14 and 2-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Pride defeated Seton Hall, 8-4, in the team's lone midweek game as junior pitcher
Jessica Peslak threw a complete game and junior
Christie Sinacori hit a two-run pinch-hit singles.
Elon is 14-3 at home this season and has won six of the last seven. The Phoenix swept Drexel in the CAA opener and took two-of-three from Charleston with both series coming at home. Elon will continue a stretch of 10-of-11 games at home.
Both teams are hitting .300 as a team. Hofstra's offense features four players who have already compiled at least 50 total bases. Senior centerfielder
Caryn Bailey is hitting .313 with two home runs and 19 RBIs while carrying an active 22-game on-base streak into the weekend. Bailey also has Hofstra's longest active hitting streak at five games.
Senior third baseman
Kim Smith has logged multiple hits in almost one-third of her games, recording nine two-hit games and a three-hit effort to lead the team. Sophomore catcher
Brittany Allocca's nine multi-hit games are second.
Junior shortstop
Michaela Transue's .345 average leads the team and sophomore first baseman
Nikki Michalowski continues her breakout season by hitting .338 and logging nine multi-RBI games while slugging a team-best .675.
Hofstra is 12-2 when leading after five innings and 13-1 when taking the lead after six. The Pride has also come through in the end by out-scoring teams, 27-9, in the seventh inning. That is the squad's highest run differential out of any inning.
The Phoenix defeated N.C. State, 4-2, on Wednesday in a non-conference road game. Kayla Caruso threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win and improve to 5-4. Caruso is one of three players to log at least five wins, joining staff ace Elise Walton (7-3, 1.93 ERA) and Abby Barker (6-5, 4.46 ERA). Walton's five complete games leads the squad.
A deep lineup hasn't produced many home runs – just 16 in 35 games – but is hitting a collective. 307 and getting on base at a .390 clip. Kara Shutt's .450 average leads the league. She has compiled a .512 on-base percentage without sacrifice power. Her .685 slugging percentage has been the product of two home runs, four triples and 12 doubles.
Emily Roper's four home runs account for a quarter of the team's total and her 28 RBIs are six more than the next closest player in Shutt. Elon features five starters hitting at least .300.
Hofstra is 3-1 in the all-time series against an Elon squad that is in its second season as Colonial Athletic Association members. The Pride won two-of-three against Elon in the regular season home series last year before besting the Phoenix, 10-0, in five innings in the CAA Championship opener at James Madison's field.
