MLAX: Hofstra Begins CAA Schedule By Hosting Fairfield Saturday Night

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Pride will be looking for their third consecutive win this Saturday, April 2 when they begin their 2016 Colonial Athletic Association regular season schedule against the Stags of Fairfield University at James M. Shuart Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Hofstra-Fairfield contest will have live video and audio streaming by Pride Productions with the links available on this page or via the Hofstra men's lacrosse schedule page on GoHofstra.com.  In addition, live stats will also be available on Hofstrastats.com with links above as well.

Hofstra is 6-3 on the season entering their CAA opener but fell out of the top 20 in all three polls this week despite posting a 2-0 record last week. The Pride defeated Vermont, 13-12 in overtime on March 22 on senior Brian von Bargen's fourth goal of the game just 1:11 into the extra period. Most recently, senior Sam Llinares tallied five goals and one assist and junior Josh Byrne added four goals and one assist to lead Hofstra to a 15-8 victory at St. John's on Saturday, March 26. Sophomore goalie Jack Concannon made 14 saves against Vermont and 12 at St. John's for his fifth and six wins of his career.

Saturday's CAA opener will be seventh meeting between the Pride and Fairfield in a series that began in 2002. Hofstra holds a 4-2 series lead. The two teams last met on April 24, 2015 in the crucial final regular season contest of the season. The Stags posted a 5-4 victory over the Pride which eliminated Hofstra from CAA Championship contention and ended their season. The Pride won the last meeting with the Stags in Hempstead in 2014, 9-7.

Hofstra has victories over North Carolina (10-5), Princeton (11-10 in OT), NJIT (19-4), Ohio State (8-5), Vermont (13-12 in OT) and St. John's (15-8). The Pride losses have come against Georgetown (11-6), Stony Brook (13-5) and Providence (12-7). Hofstra averages 10.44 goals per game and allows 8.89 per outing.

The Pride is led in scoring by Josh Byrne, who has tallied team-highs of 22 goals, nine assists and 31 points. Sam Llinares posted 20 goals for the third time in his career and now has 20 goals and seven assists. Von Bargen, the CAA Player of the Week after posting six goals and two assists last week, continues his great final season and now has career-highs of 20 goals and 23 points. Senior Korey Hendrickson, who tallied five goals and two assists last week, now has 13 goals and six assists on the year.

Sophomore goalie Jack Concannon, after making 26 saves in the two Pride victories last week, now has a 9.00 goals against average with 104 saves and a .568 save percentage.

The Stags of Fairfield also begin their Colonial Athletic Association regular season schedule on Saturday and enter the contest with a 4-6 overall record in 2016. The Stags have defeated UMass Lowell (12-10), Georgetown (13-9), Colgate (12-7) and Quinnipiac (13-7). Their losses have come against Richmond (11-10), Bucknell (13-8), Rutgers (12-6), Stony Brook (9-6), Yale (10-5) and Villanova (15-9).

Fairfield averages 9.40 goals per game on offense and allows 10.3 per outing on defense. The Stags are led by a Long Island native and freshman Colin Burke with team-highs of 26 goals and 34 points in 10 games. The Lloyd Harbor native leads the team with four man-up goals this season.

Senior Charlie Schnider has tallied seven goals and a team-high 19 assists for 26 points. Classmate T.J. Neubauer has added 21 goals and two assists in eight games while sophomore Charlie Horning has chipped in seven goals and nine assists.

Junior Tyler Behring has started all 10 games in the Fairfield goal and has recorded a 10.39 goals against average with 120 saves and a .543 save percentage.
