Hempstead, NY - Hofstra junior attackman
Josh Byrne has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending February 28, the CAA announced this morning.
Byrne, a native of New Westminster, BC, Canada, scored five goals including the game-winner 14 seconds into overtime to give the Hofstra Pride an 11-10 victory over the Princeton Tigers at James M. Shuart Stadium last Saturday. He tallied one goal in the first quarter, two in the second, one in the fourth and the winner in overtime. Byrne took just seven shots in the game and picked up four ground balls as the eighth-ranked Pride improved to 2-0 on the season.

Byrne has taken the college lacrosse world by storm the first two weeks of the season. In his first game with the Pride, the 2015 NJCAA Attackman of the Year tallied four goals and added two assists in Hofstra's 10-5 victory over then-fifth-ranked North Carolina on February 20. His play in that contest earned him the Baltimore Sun's National Lacrosse Player of the Week award.
Byrne ranks third in the nation in Division I in goals per game (4.5 gpg) and seventh in points per game (5.5 ppg) in the NCAA statistics through games of February 29.
Byrne and the Pride will be back in action tonight (Tuesday, March 1) when the Pride host the Highlanders of New Jersey Institute of Technology at James M. Shuart Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
