Michael Hughes recorded the only Pride points of the day, on a forfeit in the final match of the day, as the Brown Bears defeated Hofstra, 37-6 in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association match at the PIzzitola Sports Center Saturday afternoon.
The match wrapped up the Pride's regular season as they will now prepare for the EIWA Championships in two weeks. Hofstra dropped its fifth consecutive match to fall to 5-13 on the season and 1-7 in the EIWA. Brown improved to 5-9 overall and 3-8 in conference play.
The Bears of Brown dominated the contest with six bonus point victories including three major decisions, two tech falls and a win by forfeit in building a 37-0 lead after nine weight classes.
The Pride had close matches at 125 and 184 in the contest. At 125, Hofstra sophomore
Bryan Damon was edged by Michael Russo, 3-1 in overtime. At 184, Pride sophomore
Cory Damiana was edged by sophomore Austin Pfarr, 5-4.
Hughes' victory gives him a 34-7 record on the year and an 8-0 mark in the EIWA.
Hofstra will now prepare for the EIWA Championships to be held at Princeton University's Jadwin Gymnasium on Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6.
