Newark, NJ – The Hofstra Men's Cross Country team captured two of their three dual match-ups at the 2016 New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlander Challenge at Branch Brook Park Saturday morning.
Hofstra senior
Jack Finlayson placed third overall in the 8K race in 26:12 while classmate
Riley Leder was fifth in 26:33. Junior
Rodney Chirchir, who was Hofstra's top finisher at the Stony Brook Wolfie Invitational earlier this season, was sixth in 26:35 and junior
Alan Hetherington, who was the Pride's number one runner at the Virginia Panorama Farms Invitational on September 23, was 12
th overall in 27:26. Senior
Michael Simon was 16
th in 28:01 while junior
Austin Jenkins was 18
th in 28:39.
Scored as individual dual meets, Hofstra edged NJIT, 26-30 and defeated St. Peter's 15-45 but fell to the Seahawks of Wagner, 24-31. If scored as a Division I meet with all four teams, Hofstra would have won the meet with 42 points, Wagner would have been second with 48 with NJIT (50) and St. Peter's (110) rounding out the standings.
The Hofstra teams return to action on Saturday, October 15 when they travel back into New Jersey for the Princeton Invitational.
