Hempstead, NY - Junior Michael Hughes posted a major decision to lead three Pride wrestlers with victories by the Bearcats recorded four bonus point wins including three by pin as Binghamton defeated Hofstra, 31-10 in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association match at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center Sunday afternoon.

Hofstra opened the match with hard-fought 4-1 victory by sophomore Bryan Damon over Binghamton freshman Steven Bulzomi at 125. The victory was Damon's third consecutive win and boosted his season record to 14-16 overall and 2-1 in EIWA matches.

But the Bearcats won the next four matches, including three by falls by Jacob Nicholson at 133, Dylan Caruana at 141 and Vincent DePrez at 157 to take a 21-3 lead at halftime. Frank Garcia also had a win by decision over Kyle Krasavage at 149.

Hofstra (3-8, 0-3) started the second half of the match on the right foot as redshirt freshman Bobby Fehr defeated redshirt freshman Anthony DePrez, 9-6 at 165 pounds to close the deficit to 21-6. Fehr improved to 4-14 overall and 1-2 in the EIWA.

But Binghamton (6-4, 3-2) responded with three consecutive victories including a major decision by sophomore Steven Schneider at 184 to open up a 31-6 advantage after Mark Tracy topped Pride freshman Omar Haddad, 8-3 at 197.

Hofstra junior Michael Hughes closed out the contest with his third consecutive victory, an 11-0 major decision over redshirt freshman Connor Calkins at 285. Hughes is now 24-6 overall and 3-0 in the EIWA.

The Pride return to action next Sunday, January 24 in the Hofstra Duals at the Mack Physical Education Center. Hofstra will face Sacred Heart at 1 p.m., Clarion at 3 p.m. and EIWA-foe Columbia at 5 p.m.
