Bryan Damon recorded his second pin of the season and junior
Michael Hughes posted his team-leading seventh major decision of the year for the Pride but the Black Knights captured the other eight weight classes as Army West Point defeated Hofstra, 33-10 in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association match at Arvin Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Opening the match at 165, Army West Point posted four consecutive victories, including major decisions at 174 and 197, to build a 14-0 lead. Hughes ended the Black Knights run with a 9-1 major decision over David Farr at 285. Hughes improved to 23-6 overall and 2-0 on the year and set a personal-best for victories in a season.
Damon followed by pinning Jacob Fontanez at the 2:57 mark of their 125-lb. contest to close the Pride deficit to 14-10 for his seventh bonus point win of the season. Damon improved to 13-16 overall and 1-1 in the EIWA.
But Army West Point, which improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the EIWA, captured the final four weight classes, including a win by fall at 141 and two tech falls at 133 and 157, to record the 33-10 victory.
Hofstra slipped to 3-7 on the season and 0-2 in the EIWA.
The Pride returns to action on Sunday (Jan. 17) when they host the Bearcats of Binghamton at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center in another EIWA contest. Match time is 1 p.m.
