FH: Hofstra Travels To Fairfield And Hosts Quinnipiac and Yale This Week.

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Field Hockey team begins a four-game stretch of games against opponents from the State of Connecticut with three contests, including two at home, this week.

The Pride (5-3) will travel to Fairfield University (3-3) on Wednesday, September 23 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Quinnipiac (1-6) on Friday, September 25 at 3 p.m. and Yale (2-3) on Sunday, September 27 at 2 p.m. at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.

Fairfield will provide live video on FairfieldStags.tv as well as live statistics. Hofstra will provide access to live statistics of both home games and live audio will also be available through Pride Productions.

Hofstra enters the week with a 5-3 record and riding a three-game winning streak after recording a 3-2 victory over UMass Lowell at home last Friday.

In the contest against the River Hawks of UMass Lowell, junior Stella Schoen scored twice and freshman Madison Sauve recorded her first collegiate goal to lead the Pride to victory. Junior Leigh Maxwell-Smith had an outstanding game on the defensive line, recording two defensive saves and thwarting several River Hawk attacks.

After eight games this season, Hofstra is led in scoring by junior Claudia Marin Samper with seven goals and five assists. Stella Schoen has added seven goals and one assist while freshman Samantha Schlegel has four goals and sophomore Simca Schoen has added three goals and two assists. Senior captain Charlotte Loehr has one goal and four assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Carys Swan has a 2.24 goals against average with 35 saves and a .686 save percentage.
 
The Stags of Fairfield enter the week with a 3-3 record following their 2-1 win over Villanova on Sunday. Fairfield has won its last two contests including a 2-1 decision over CAA-member Drexel last Friday. The Stags also have a win over Colgate, 6-2 to their credit this season and losses to Delaware (4-1), Michigan (4-0) and UC Davis (3-2).
 
The Stags, who average 2.17 goals per game and allow 2.50 per outing, are led in scoring by juniors Ann Burgoyne, with six goals, and Julie de Paeuw, with two goals and one assist. Freshman Ariane von Schenck has added one goal and two assists. Junior goalie Caitlin Bennett has recorded a 2.61 goals against average with 27 saves and a .675 save percentage in five games this season.

Hofstra holds a 27-5 series advantage over Fairfield including a 2-1 overtime win last season. The two teams last met in Fairfield in 2013 with the Stags winning, 3-2.
 
The Bobcats of Quinnipiac, who will host Holy Cross on Tuesday (Sept. 22) before coming to Long Island to face the Pride, are 1-6 entering the week. The Bobcats dropped their third consecutive game last Thursday, falling to Maine, 4-1. Quinnipiac defeated Yale, 2-1 and has losses to UMass Lowell (2-1), Boston College (4-0), Connecticut (7-0), Michigan State (3-2) and Lafayette (2-1) in addition to Maine.

The Bobcats, who have scored just seven goals and allowed 23 in seven contests this season, are led in scoring by sophomore Michelle Federico with two goals and three assists. Senior Meghan McCullough has added one goal and two assists while junior Angie King has tallied a goal and an assist. Senior goalie Megan Conaboy has a 3.17 goals against average with 44 saves and a .698 save percentage in six games this season.

Hofstra holds a 10-2 series advantage over Quinnipiac but the Bobcats won the last meeting in 2014, 4-2.

The Bulldogs of Yale, who are coming off a 5-0 loss to Syracuse last Sunday, are 2-3 on the season. Yale has wins over Sacred Heart (2-1) and Bryant (3-2) and losses to Quinnipiac (2-1), American (1-0) and the Orange on its slate. Yale will host Harvard on Saturday before coming to Hofstra on Sunday.

The Bulldogs, who have scored six goals and allowed 11 this season, are led in scoring by sophomore Carol Middough with five goals. Freshman Evagelia Toffoloni has the other Yale goal. Junior goalie Emilie Katz has a 2.14 goals against average with 47 saves and a .810 save percentage in five games this season.

Yale holds a 15-8 series advantage over the Pride. But Hofstra has won the last three meetings including a 2-1 victory last season.
