FH: Hofstra Heads North For Games Against Maine and 20th-ranked Boston U.

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Field Hockey team heads out on the road for the first time this week as they travel to Orono, Maine for games against the host Black Bears of Maine (2-0) on Friday, September 4 at 3 p.m. and 20th-ranked Boston University (1-1) on Saturday, September 5, also at 3 p.m.

Maine will provide live stats and video of Friday's contest which can be accessed on GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra is 2-0 on the season with victories over Vermont (4-2) and Colgate (7-1). In the season opener against the Catamounts of Vermont, junior Claudia Marin Samper had a career-high three goals, senior Charlotte Loehr had two assists and the Pride outshot Vermont, 27-4 in the 4-2 victory. Two days later, Hofstra outshot Colgate, 39-3 with sophomore Simca Schoen and freshman Samantha Schlegel each scoring twice and Marin Samper adding a goal and three assists in the 7-1 rout of the Raiders.

Hofstra, which accumulated the most goals in the first two games of the season since becoming a NCAA program, could have scored more if not for the 35 total saves by the opponents last weekend. But Pride head coach Kathy De Angelis is happy with the 5.5 goals for and 1.50 goals against averages heading into a tough three-game stretch that will see Hofstra play two 2014 NCAA Championship teams.

Leading the Pride is 2014 All-CAA first team selection Claudia Marin Samper, who has four goals and three assists this season and was named the CAA Player of the Week. She recorded 13 goals and eight assists in 2014. Three Hofstra players, junior Stella Schoen, sophomore Simca Schoen and freshman Samantha Schlegel, each have two goals. Hofstra has also used two goalies with sophomore Carys Swan having a 0.87 goals against average.

The Black Bears of Maine, who recorded a 10-10 record last season, enter the weekend with a 2-0 record with a 5-1 win over La Salle and a 2-0 win over Holy Cross to their credit. Maine will be facing the Pride for the 23rd time and hold a 15-8 series lead. The Black Bears are led in scoring by junior Sydney Veljacic with four goals. Senior Marissa Shaw has scored two goals while classmate Jessica Skillings has added two assists. Red-shirt sophomores Emma Cochran and Emily Corbett have shared the goalie duties with each playing a half in both games.

The 20th-ranked Terriers of Boston University, the 2014 Patriot League champions and NCAA Championship participants, are coming off a 13-7 season a year ago. The Terriers are 1-1 this season with a 4-1 win over New Hampshire and a 2-1 loss to 18th-ranked Massachusetts. BU will be facing the Pride for the 13th time and hold a 10-2 series advantage. The Terriers have balanced scoring with five players each with one goal. Junior Hester van der Laan has one goal and one assist while freshman Kara Enoch leads the team with two assists. Junior Cammy Jensen has played all 140 minutes in goal for BU and has a 2.50 goals against average with a .615 save percentage.
