WLAX: Hofstra Entertains Drexel In Regular Season Finale

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team will look to put the finishing touches on a strong 2015 regular season when the Pride host Drexel on Saturday at 1 p.m. from James M. Shuart Stadium.

Hofstra (10-5, 5-0 CAA), which has already clinched the top seed in the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Championship, can wrap up its first-ever undefeated conference season as a member of the CAA and the first since going 6-0 in the America East Conference in 2001.

The CAA Championship will be held on May 1 and 3 at Delaware. Hofstra will take on Towson in the semifinals at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 1.

Pride Productions will have live video and audio of the game and there will be live statistics as well. Links for both can be found on the women's lacrosse schedule page at GoHofstra.com or via the "Story Links" on this page.

Prior to the game, the program will honor its six seniors as they play their final regular season game at James M. Shuart Stadium. The class includes: Brittain Altomare, April Iannetta, Sam Lenox, Abby Wilson, Kaitlin Ayres and Kelsey Gregerson

At the final regular season home game of her storied career, senior attacker Brittain Altomare will attempt to establish a new school record for career points as she currently has 240 to tie Kathleen Mikowski (2000-03) for the top spot of the most hallowed record in Hofstra Women's Lacrosse history. Altomare already holds the school career record for assists (126) and draw controls (189), along with her 2015 single season totals of 39 assists, 74 points and 82 draw controls all establishing new single-season records.

In addition to Altomare, Hofstra's offense has really established itself this season and its balance has led to the team's success.

Eight different players have at least 13 points this season, while seven different players have reached double figures in goals. Much of the additional offensive firepower has come from underclassmen as the Pride's second, third and fourth leading scorers are all freshmen or sophomores. Hofstra's fifth-leading scorer, junior Lindsey Alfano, is having a breakout season for the Pride as she has 17 points on 14 goals and three assists. She also has contributed 12 draw controls, 12 caused turnovers and 10 ground balls. Alfano's goal, assist, point, draw control and caused turnover totals are all new career-highs. She is one of just two players on the Pride with double figures in goals, ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers. The other is Iannetta, who has 15 points on 11 goals and four assists to go along with 53 draw controls, 43 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers.

Hofstra enters the regular season finale having won five of its last six games. In the latest NCAA RPI the Pride was #16.

Drexel is 4-11 overall and 1-4 in league play. The Dragons won their last game, a 10-7 victory over Elon, on Sunday. Lacey Aghazarian and Emily Duffey lead the way with 20 points as Aghazarian has 19 goals and one assist, while Duffey has 13 goals and seven assists. Madeline DiBrino and Jocelyn Quaile lead the way defensively for Drexel as DiBrino has 29 ground balls, 20 caused turnovers and 15 draw controls, while Quaile has 28 ground balls, 24 caused turnovers and 10 draw controls.

Hofstra leads the all-time series with Drexel, 25-6. Remarkably, the Pride has won 21 straight in the series. The Dragons last win in the all-time meetings occurred during the 1993 campaign. Hofstra won the lone meeting in 2014 by the score of 10-2.
