WLAX: Hofstra Hosts Nationally-Ranked Stony Brook On Tuesday

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team will return home to James M. Shuart Stadium on Tuesday when the Pride host nationally-ranked Stony Brook at 7 p.m.

Admission to all Hofstra Women's Lacrosse games are free of charge.

There will be Pride Productions live video and audio of the game, along with live stats. Links for both can be found on the women's lacrosse schedule page at GoHofstra.com or via the "Story Links" on this page.

Tuesday's game against the Seawolves will mark the Pride's first home contest since April 5 as Hofstra has played its last three games away from home. Hofstra will close the regular season with two straight home games as after the SBU contest the Pride will host Drexel on Saturday at 1 p.m. That game will be Hofstra's regular season finale and will also serve as "Senior Day" for the Pride's senior class.

It has been a very successful month of April for Hofstra (10-4, 5-0 CAA) as the Pride has won all five of its games during the month to own the top spot in the Colonial Athletic Association standings. By virtue of its win over Elon this past Friday, Hofstra clinched the top spot in the upcoming CAA Championship. The tournament will be held at Delaware on May 1 and 3. It marks the first time since 2007 that Hofstra will be the number one seed in the conference tournament.

Hofstra's five-game win streak is the program's longest since a similar five-game streak in 2009. The last time the Pride had a streak longer than five games was in 2006 when Hofstra won eight straight contests.

With her four points against Elon, senior attacker Brittain Altomare now has 72 points this season and 238 in her spectacular career. She is two points shy of tying Kathleen Mikowski (2000-03) for the all-time program record for points and one point shy of tying Kathleen McPike (2001) for the single season school record for points.

Altomare has 34 goals and 38 assists this season to rank first on the team in scoring. Sophomore attackers Tiana Parrella and Morgan Knox have proven to be solid second and third options for the Pride as Parrella has 31 points on 20 goals and 11 assists, while Knox has 28 points on 18 goals and 10 assists.

Senior defender April Iannetta has 51 draw controls, 42 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers. She leads Hofstra in ground balls and caused turnovers and is second to Altomare (80) in draw controls. Junior defender Shelby Milne has been solid on defense as well for the Pride with 18 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.

Freshman attacker Katie Kirk had the best game of her young career in the 10-9 win over Elon on Friday as she scored the first three goals of her career to give Hofstra the boost it needed. The Pride trailed the Phoenix, 8-4, with 22 minutes left before scoring six of the final seven goals in the game to capture the important victory. Altomare had four points on two goals and two assists against Elon, while junior midfielder Becky Conto added two goals and an assist.

Stony Brook is 14-1 this season and has won three straight contests coming into Tuesday's game. In last week's national polls the Seawolves were ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, fifth in the Inside Lacrosse poll and fifth in the Lacrosse Magazine poll. Hofstra is receiving votes in all three polls.

Kylie Ohlmiller leads the team with 60 points on 32 goals and 28 assists. Courtney Murphy has a team-best 50 goals to go along with seven assists for 57 points. Dorrien Van Dyke is also over 40 points as she has 42 points on 29 goals and 13 assists.

Tuesday marks the seventh all-time meeting between Hofstra and Stony Brook with the Pride leading the series, 5-1. The two teams have not met since a 17-7 Hofstra win in 2010.
