Hempstead, NY – Winners of four straight games, the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team will look to continue its strong play as the Pride head south to Elon on Friday for a 5 p.m. contest.
The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the Pride and the Phoenix as Elon joined the Colonial Athletic Association this season.
Hofstra (9-4, 4-0 CAA) is having quite the stretch right now and various milestones have been reached or are nearing them.
The four-game win streak is the program's longest since the start of the 2013 season. The last time Hofstra had a streak longer was in 2009 (five games).
On Sunday, the 8-7 double-overtime win over Towson ended a streak of four straight overtime defeats for the Pride.
The 4-0 start in CAA play is the best since a similar 4-0 start in 2007. The last time Hofstra started better than 4-0 was when the Pride finished 6-0 in America East play in 2001. In addition, Hofstra's 9-4 record after 13 games is the program's best since also starting 9-4 in 2010.
Individually, senior attacker
Brittain Altomare is leading the way with 68 points on 32 goals and 36 assists. She also has 73 draw controls. Sophomore attacker
Tiana Parrella reached 30 points on the season as she has 19 goals and 11 assists for the Pride. On defense, senior defender
April Iannetta and senior goalie
Kelsey Gregerson are anchoring the Pride's back line. Iannetta has 41 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers. Gregerson has 32 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. She also has a 8.46 goals against average and .456 save percentage.
Altomare has a chance to break one of the most hallowed records in program history in the upcoming slate as she is only six points shy of tying Kathleen Mikowski for the most points in a career. Mikowski tallied 240 from 2000-03 and Altomare heads into the Elon game needing six to tie the record and seven points to break it. In addition her 68 points this season are five shy of tying the single season record of 73 set by Kathleen McPike in 2001.
Elon is 8-6 overall and 1-3 in its first season in the CAA. They earned a narrow 8-7 win over William & Mary in their last game on Sunday. Stephanie Asher leads the Phoenix with 47 points on 39 goals and eight assists. Sloane Kessler also is strong offensively for Elon with 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points. Rachel Ramirez has 45 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers, while Asher has totaled 26 draw controls.
The game at Elon will mark the Pride's final road game of the regular season. Hofstra will finish the 2015 regular season at home with games against Stony Brook on April 21 and against Drexel on April 25.
