Hempstead, NY – Hofstra Field Hockey student-athletes
Stella Schoen and Matilda Hallett have been named 2014 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Scholars of Distinction, the NFHCA announced.
The Scholars of Distinction Award honors those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative 3.90 or higher grade point average through the Fall semester of the 2014-15 academic year.
Schoen, a sophomore forward from Hamburg, Germany, earned the Scholar of Distinction Award for the second consecutive year. She earned her second All-CAA honor with a second team selection in 2014. Schoen, who was an All-CAA first team selection, a CAA All-Rookie Team pick and a NFHCA All-Mid-East Region second team choice in 2013, finished fourth on the team with six goals and seven assists for 19 points despite missing seven of the 19 contests with an injury early in the year. Schoen tallied two goals and five points in win over Rider and posted a career-high three assists in win at Delaware. She also recorded game-winning goals against Columbia and Towson. Schoen, who earned CAA co-Player of the Week honors on October 20, is a two-time CAA Commissioner's Academic Award recipient and Hofstra Athletics Academic Honor Roll selection.
Hallett, a freshman from Greenwood Village, Colorado, earned her first NFHCA Scholar of Distinction Award in 2014. The Worcester, England native was a four-time All-Colorado selection at St. Mary's Academy in Englewood, Colorado prior to coming to Hofstra. She was also named to the All-Colorado Academic first team in 2012 and 2013. Hallett was also a four-year member of the USA Field Hockey Futures Program from 2011 through 2014. She played in two games for the Pride at midfield during her freshman year in 2014.
