WSOC: Former Hofstra Standout Amy Turner Promoted To English National Team

Hempstead, N.Y. – Former Hofstra Women's Soccer standout defender Amy Turner earned a promotion to the English national team. Turner will join England for the Cyprus Cup campaign and will be available to play on Friday's match against Australia.

Turner will replace the injured Casey Stoney. Before her promotion, the 23-year-old Turner captained England's U23-team. She has also played for the Doncaster Belles and Sheffield FC. She currently plays for Notts County.

In 2010, Turner was a key player for one of the best teams in Hofstra history. Turner started all 22 games in Hofstra's 19-3 season in which the Pride went 11-0 against the CAA in the regular season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Turner played a fantastic two-way game that season while scoring four goals and posting four assists for 12 points and a .400 shooting percentage while notching three game-winning goals.

"We're all very proud of Amy for the tremendous opportunity to represent her county on the national team," Hofstra Head Coach Simon Riddiough said. "It's an incredible and well-deserved honor and we wish her the best of luck."
