Late Goal Lifts Monmouth Over Hofstra

West Long Branch, NJ - Hofstra conceded two second half goals, including the game-winner to Chloe Messer with 2:02 remaining as Monmouth rallied for a 2-1 CAA victory over the Pride Sunday at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn.

The Pride suffered their first loss since August 24 and slipped to 4-2-7 overall and 1-1-3 in the CAA. Monmouth won for the third straight game and moved to 8-4-1 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Hofstra opened the scoring at the 6:47 mark as Manon Lebargy headed in a long service from Gabriella Marte. The goal was Lebargy's third of the season.

The Hawks tied the game at 65:17 as Emily De Almeida converted a pass from Summer Reimet. Monmouth would get the game winner when Messer intercepted a clearing attempt at the top of the 18-yard box and volleyed a shot over the head of keeper Lilly Bailey and just under the cross bar. It was Messer's second game-winning goal in as many games.

Hofstra returns to action next Sunday, October 12, at home against Drexel. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. and the game will be Hofstra's senior day.
