The Streak Is Snapped: Hofstra Ends Draw Streak With Win Over Northeastern

Hempstead, NY - Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir and Olivia Pearse each collected one goal and Lilly Bailey made four saves as Hofstra ended a string of seven consecutive draws with a 2-0 victory over Northeastern in a CAA matchup Thursday night at Captains Field.

Hofstra moved to 4-1-7 overall and 1-0-3 in the CAA with the win. Northeastern dropped to 1-7-4 overall and 0-3-1 in league play.

The Pride took the lead with just under six minutes to play in the first half as Gabriella Marte sent in a beautiful shot from just outside the 18-yard box that hit under the crossbar and bounced down and out to Thorhallsdottir. The Pride senior gently headed the ball into the open net for her first goal of the season.

Still clinging to the one-goal lead late in the contest, the Pride got a much-needed insurance goal as Pearse headed in a picture-perfect corner kick from Millie Davies with 10 minutes on the clock. It was her third goal of the season, which leads the team.

Bailey and the Hofstra defense were strong once again. The Huskies were able to create some scoring chances, but only put four shots on target. The sophomore netminder turned all four away including a nice diving stop on a shot that seemed destined for the back of the net.

Northeastern keeper Eliza Teplow had three saves in the loss. Maggie Cochran tallied three of the Huskies' four shots on goal.

Hofstra will look to start a winning streak Sunday when it heads to Monmouth for a 1 p.m. game.
