FH: Hofstra Travels To William and Mary and #17 JMU This Weekend

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Field Hockey team, winners of three consecutive games and 11 of its last 12 contests, will head into the final two Colonial Athletic Association regular season games this weekend with a chance at achieving a first for the program in their league history.

The Pride, who clinched a spot in the CAA tournament with their two wins last weekend, will travel to William and Mary (6-11, 1-4) on Friday, October 30 at 6 p.m. before heading to 17th-ranked James Madison (12-4, 5-0) on Sunday, November 1 at noon. Live statistics will be available for both games while JMU will also provide live audio of Sunday's contest that can be accessed on GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra has a shot at earning the CAA regular season title and the number one seed in the conference championship tournament on November 6&8 with two victories this weekend. The top seed gets to host the CAA Championship.

The Pride returned from a 12-day hiatus last Friday at Northeastern with a 3-0 victory over the Huskies. Junior Claudia Marin Samper tallied two goals and sophomore Lauren Saltus recorded her second consecutive shutout to lead the Pride to victory. Saltus made four saves to post her third win of the year.

Returning home for Senior Day on Sunday against Drexel, Hofstra jumped out to a 2-0 by halftime only to see the Dragons rally to tie the contest in the 54th minute. But the Pride was able to prevail in overtime on sophomore Simca Schoen's 12th goal of the year just 1:49 into the extra period for the 3-2 victory. Hofstra scored all three of its goals off penalty corners with both Marin Samper and senior Leigh Maxwell-Smith assisting on the first two. The victory clinched the Pride's first CAA Championship berth since 2012.
