WSOC: Mehring Named GoHofstra Student-Athlete Of The Week

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra junior goalkeeper Friederike Mehring was named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 25.

Mehring posted back-to-back shutouts against Delaware and Drexel to help the Pride clinch the Colonial Athletic Association regular season championship and earn the right to host the CAA Championship semifinals and finals at Hofstra Soccer Stadium from Nov. 6-8. Mehring turned aside all four on-target shots against the Blue Hens and saved Drexel's first-half chance on Sunday.

The Hannover, Germany native has allowed one goal or fewer in six straight games to close the regular season, helping Hofstra enter the conference tournament with a 13-4-1 record and a 7-1-1 mark against the league. Mehring has four individuals shutouts this season, tying her personal best set in 2014. She has nine individual clean sheets for her career.

Mehring has factored in every decision in posting a 1.09 goals-against-average this season. She has compiled 51 total saves.

Hofstra earned a bye in the tournament quarterfinals and will next be in action in the semifinals on Nov. 6 against an opponent still to be determined.
