All Tied Up! Hofstra Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Draw In CAA Opener

Hempstead, NY - Mathilde Braithwaite's goal with 4:33 remaining in the second half gave Hofstra a 2-1 lead, but Elon's Gabby Hoschek scored the equalizer with 1:00 on the clock as the Pride and Phoenix played a 2-2 draw in the CAA opener at Captains Field Thursday night. The draw was Hofstra's fifth in a row.

The Pride moved to 3-1-5 overall and 0-0-1 in the CAA, while Elon is 6-0-3 overall and 0-0-1 in league play. The two goals allowed by the Phoenix were the most in a game all season and the first Hofstra goal ended a shutout streak of 746:38.

Elon wasted no time in getting on the board as Ashlee Brehio took a pass from Grace Gelhaus inside the 18-yard box just 1:03 into the game and put a shot past Hofstra keeper Lilly Bailey. The goal was Brehio's second of the season.

Hofstra scored at the 73:10 mark to tie the score. The Pride used a short corner kick with Manon Lebargy passing to Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir, who returned the pass to Lebargy on the near side just outside the 18. The Pride senior forward sent a high ball in that was headed home by Hailey Moschitta.

Braithwaite's goal came after an Elon goal kick to midfield was headed back into the offensive zone by Aimee Hodgson. Braithwaite ran on to the ball on the right side of the box and warded off a defender as she slid a shot inside the left post for the lead.

However, the Phoenix pressured the Pride the rest of the way and drew a foul just inside the far sideline about five yards from the end line. Hoschek took the free kick and bent it in just under the crossbar inside the far post to tie the score.

Bailey made five saves for the Pride, while Elon's Katie Bisgrove stopped six shots.

Hofstra returns to action Sunday at 2 p.m., hosting Campbell in a CAA game.
