FH: Hofstra Travels To Northeastern Friday, Hosts Drexel Sunday In CAA Play

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Field Hockey team, winners of nine of its last 10 contests, will be looking to continue their winning ways this weekend when the Pride face two Colonial Athletic Association opponents in the second-to-last regular season weekend of the season.

Hofstra will travel to Northeastern's (4-11, 1-2) Dedham Field on Friday, October 23 before hosting the Dragons of Drexel (6-8, 2-1) for a 1 p.m. Senior Day battle on Sunday, October 25 at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.
 
Northeastern will provide access to live video and live statistics of Friday's game while Hofstra will provide live stats and live audio through Pride Productions on Sunday.

The Pride, idle since a 9-0 victory over Towson on October 11, will be looking to get a leg up on a CAA Championship tournament bid as the conference race looks, once again, destined to go down to the final weekend. James Madison (11-4), ranked 19th nationally, remains undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 mark. Delaware (11-4), which snapped Hofstra's eight-game winning streak on October 9, is ranked 15th and is 2-1 on league play. Drexel is 2-1 followed by the Pride, Northeastern, William and Mary (5-10, 1-3) and Towson (2-12, 0-3).

In the Pride's last outing, Hofstra bounced back from the 4-2 loss to Delaware with a 9-0 rout of the Tigers of Towson. The Pride dominated the visitors, outshooting them, 44-3 with redshirt sophomore Lauren Saltus needing to make just two saves for Hofstra's first shutout of the season.Sophomore Simca Schoen recorded career-highs of three goals and six points and freshman Samantha Schlegel notched career-highs of two goals, one assist and five points to lead the Pride. Junior Stella Schoen added one goal and two assists while classmate Claudia Marin Samper added two assists.

After 15 games this season, Hofstra continues to be led in scoring by Marin Samper with 15 goals and 12 assists. Stella Schoen has added 12 goals and six assists and sophomore Simca Schoen has added 10 goals and eight assists. Junior co-captain Colby Hussong has six goals and four assists. Sophomore Carys Swan, who missed the Towson game with an injury, has a 2.29 goals against average with 61 saves and a .670 save percentage in 14 games while Saltus has a 1.08 goals against average with three saves and a .600 save percentage in two games this season.

The Huskies of Northeastern enter the week with a 4-11 overall mark and a 1-2 record in CAA play. The Huskies have dropped their last two games and five of the last six contests. Northeastern has wins over Providence (2-1), Dartmouth (2-1), Monmouth (5-4) and William and Mary (2-1) and losses to #2 Connecticut (6-0), #16 Northwestern (4-1), Massachusetts (2-1), New Hampshire (1-0), Harvard (1-0), #14 Boston College (6-1), #18 Maine (2-1), Drexel (4-3), #17 Boston University (3-2), #19 James Madison (3-1) and #8 Louisville (1-0).
 
The Huskies have scored 21 goals and allowed 40 in 15 games this season. Northeastern is led in scoring by junior Natalie Stewart with five goals and four assists and sophomore Kristin Abreu with four goals and three assists. Freshman June Curry-Lindahl has added three goals and four assists. Junior Becky Garner has recorded a 2.68 goals against average with 104 saves and a .722 save percentage in 15 games.
 
Northeastern holds a 15-5 series advantage over Hofstra including a 4-3 decision on Long Island last season.

The Dragons of Drexel, who will face local Philadelphia rival Penn on Wednesday night, enter the week with a 6-8 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the CAA. The Dragons have won their last two contests. Drexel has wins over Central Michigan (5-1), Lafayette (3-2), Northeastern (4-3), Rider (4-2), William and Mary (1-0) and Temple (3-2) and losses to #5 Virginia (6-0), Richmond (2-1), St. Joseph's (1-0), #3 North Carolina (3-0), #16 Northwestern (5-1), Fairfield (2-1),  #19 James Madison (4-0) and #2 Connecticut (6-0).

The Dragons have scored 23 goals and allowed 39 this season. Drexel is led by junior Idrienne Walker with six goals. Classmate Jessica McCarthy and freshman Megan Wiest have each tallied four goals and two assists. The Dragons have split their goalie duties with freshman Erin Gilchrist playing 533 minutes of action in 12 games and posting a 2.36 goals against average with 52 saves and a .743 save percentage and junior Ainslie Rhoads playing 433 minutes in 11 games and has a 3.39 GAA with 36 saves and a .632 save percentage.

Drexel leads the all-time series with the Pride, 18-15-1 but the Hofstra won the last meeting, 2-1 in Philadelphia last season.
 
Hofstra will honor its three graduating seniors in pregame ceremonies before the Drexel contest on the occasion of the Pride's final regular season home game. The three seniors to be honored are forward Lauren del Valle, midfielder and captain Charlotte Loehr and defender Leigh Maxwell-Smith. Del Valle has played in 56 games during her career with 10 goals and five assists. Loehr has played in 73 games and has tallied 18 goals and 13 assists. Maxwell-Smith has played in 47 games in three seasons and has recorded eight assists.
