Hempstead, NY - Michael Foster hit two home runs and drove in five RBIs and Connor Lyons went 5-5 with three RBIs to lead Northeastern past Hofstra, 12-5, in the opener of a Colonial Athletic Association series Friday afternoon at University Field.
Hofstra falls to 17-19 overall and 5-8 in the CAA with the loss. Northeastern moves to 20-22 on the season, 5-8 in the CAA.
Kenny Jackson went 2-5 for the Pride with a two-run home run, his third of the season.
Northeastern scored two runs in the first as Lyons led off with a single and Foster followed with his second home run of the season. The Huskies would go up 4-0 with a pair of runs in the second before the Pride got on the board in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly from TJ Ehrsam.
The Huskies broke the game open with three runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. Foster delivered his second home run, a three-run blast in the fifth.
The Pride would score three runs in the seventh as Jackson homered and Brian MacDonald had an RBI single that scored Matt Ford. Ehrsam would knock in his second run of the game in the eighth with a single that scored Brad Witkowski.
Northeastern starter Nick Berger (2-4) allowed nine hits and four runs in 6 2/3 innings of work to pick up the win. Dave Jesch(3-3) started for Hofstra and took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings.
The series continues Saturday with a 1 p.m. start. David D'Errico will start for the Pride against Chris Carmain of the Huskies.
