BB: Hofstra Blanks Farmingdale State

Hempstead, NY - Alec Eisenberg threw five scoreless inning of three-hit ball and the Hofstra bullpen followed with four hitless innings to back a 13-hit attack in a 13-0 win over Farmingdale State Wednesday afternoon at University Field.

Hofstra evened its record at 11-11 with the win and snapped a two-game losing streak. Farmingdale State fell to 12-8 on the season with its third consecutive loss.

Eisenberg (1-2) cruised through his five innings of work, allowing just three singles and one walk with three strikeouts as he earned his first Hofstra victory. He was followed by Luke Noone, who threw a 1-2-3 frame with one strikeout. Brendan Mulligan walked his only batter to start the seventh before Kieran Ryan got the next three outs. Kevin Weissheier (1/3) and Everett Keller combined to pitch a perfect eighth and Cody Normand retired the side in order in the ninth to end the game.

Offensively Hofstra put up three runs in the third, two coming in on an RBI double from TJ Ehrsam. Brian MacDonald drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly. The Pride would add four more runs in the fifth with David Leiderman, MacDonald and Robbie Cafiero picking up RBIs. Kenny Jackson had an RBI triple in a two-run seventh and Ryan Donovan chipped in a two-run single in a four-run eighth inning.

Ehrsam, MacDonald, Donovan and Cafiero each had two RBIs on the day, while Leiderman and Brad Witkowski each scored three runs.

James Powers (0-1) took the loss for the Rams, lasting 2 1/3 innings and allowing three runs on two hits. He walked three and struck out one.

Hofstra heads to Wilmington, NC, this weekend for a key three-game Colonial Athletic Association series against preseason favorite UNC Wilmington. The series opens Friday night at 6 p.m. and continues Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
