Harrisonburg, VA – James Madison scored the game's first five goals and never looked back in posting a 17-7 victory over the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team on Sunday afternoon at University Park.
Hofstra was led by senior attacker Lindsay McKinnon, who posted a goal and three assists in the game. Freshman midfielder Tiana Parrella notched her first career hat trick in the contest for the Pride.
With the loss, the Pride falls to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. James Madison improves to 10-6 and 4-1 in conference action. The loss ended a short two-game win streak for Hofstra.
James Madison got off to a hot start in the contest as they scored three times in the opening five minutes before the Pride settled down. With the Dukes ahead, 3-0, the game wouldn't see another goal until the 11:58 mark when Amy Roguski scored her second of the game for JMU to make it 4-0 in favor of the home squad.
The Dukes would add to their game-opening run as Betsy Angel scored with 8:09 left on the first half clock to make it 5-0 before Hofstra finally responded.
Senior midfielder Jenn Ward would get the Pride on the board with just 85 seconds to play before halftime as she notched her 10th goal of the season off an assist from McKinnon.
The Dukes would push their advantage to nine goals as a pair of goals in the second stanza from Roguski made it 10-1.
Hofstra would then gradually close the gap with three straight goals, including a pair from Parrella, to make it 10-4 with 10 minutes to play in regulation.
James Madison answered with two quick goals and eventually earned the dominating victory.
Junior defender April Iannetta totaled five ground balls, three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers in the game. Junior attacker Brittain Altomare had five draw controls, three ground balls and two assists. Junior goalie Kelsey Gregerson made nine saves in net.
Roguski finished with five goals and one assist for James Madison, while Megan Piotrowicz (4 G, 2 A) and Emily Rhoads (3 G, 4 A) both had strong games as well for the Dukes.
Hofstra has one more regular season game remaining as the Pride will head to Drexel next Saturday for a 1 p.m. game. That contest will have huge postseason implications as the winner of that contest will earn the fourth and final spot in the upcoming CAA Championship.
