Riverdale, NY – Manhattan scored four times in the eighth inning to break open a 1-0 game and three Jasper pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Hofstra Wednesday at Van Cortlandt Park.

Manhattan improves to 8-23 with the win while Hofstra falls to 13-13 with the loss.

Shawn Kanwisher (1-1) allowed five hits over five innings to pick up the win for Manhattan, his first of the season. Casey Meyers threw three innings of one-hit relief and Matt Simonetti allowed one hit in the ninth inning.

The Jaspers scored a run in the fourth as Vin Teixeira singled home Jason Patnick (two hits, two runs). That would be all the offense Manhattan needed, but the Jaspers scored four times in the eighth all with two outs. The Jaspers would string together six consecutive singles and also scored a run on a balk.

Pride sophomore Alec Eisenberg (1-3) took the loss, allowing five runs on 10 hits over 7 2/3 innings. He walked none and struck out five.

TJ Ehrsam had two of Hofstra's seven hits on the day, while Matt Ford had a hit and a stolen base. The shutout loss was Hofstra's first of the season.

Hofstra is back in action on Thursday when it travels to NYIT for a 3 p.m. contest.
