BB: Hofstra Evens Series With 11-5 Win Over UNCW

Wilmington, NC - Hofstra pounded out a season-high 18 hits and David D'Errico made his return to the starting rotation a successful one as the Pride evened their Colonial Athletic Association series with an 11-5 win over UNCW Saturday at Brooks Field.

Hofstra moved back to .500 with the win and now is 12-12 on the season, 2-3 in the CAA. UNCW is 17-17, 3-4 in league play. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Seahawks.

D'Errico (1-1), who was making his first start since opening night at Grand Canyon University, allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits in five innings of work. The senior, who missed five weeks due to injury, walked one and struck out one. Graham Tebbit pitched the final four innings, allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts to earn his first save.

Hofstra opened up a 10-1 lead with an eight-run fourth inning, sending 13 men to the plate against three UNCW pitchers. The Pride's first eight batters reached base before an out was recorded. Brian MacDonald had a two-run double in the rally, his second RBI double of the contest. Brad Witkowski, Eric Ferguson, TJ Ehrsam, Robbie Cafiero and Mike Friel each had RBIs in the inning as well. 

All nine Hofstra players in the batting order collected hits with Ferguson, Matt Ford and MacDonald tallying three apiece. David Leiderman, Friel and Witkowski had two hits each.

Steven Linkous, Corey Dick and Robbie Torburn each had two hits for the Seahawks. Starter Christian MacDonald (1-4) was tagged with the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits in three innings.

The Pride and Seahawks play the rubber game of their series Sunday at 2 p.m.
