3/8/2014 8:31:00 PM

San Antonio, TX - Incarnate Word scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie in an 8-3 win over the Pride in the final game of a four-game series at Sullivan Field. The win allowed the Cardinals to split the series.

Hofstra drops to 5-6 on the year with the loss, while Incarnate Word improves to 5-11.

Hofstra got on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the first as Dalton Rouleau singled with one out and went to second on a balk. Matt Ford followed with a walk and both runners moved up a base on a groundout. Kenny Jackson then delivered both runs with an opposite field double to left.

Graham Tebbit cruised through the first four innings before running into trouble in the fifth. The senior, making his first start allowed just one hit through his first four innings before loading the bases to start the fifth. He induced a 1-2-3 double play before being relieved by Chris Harkey. Mark Whitehead greeted him with a two-run single and would later come around on a throwing error to put the Cardinals ahead, 3-2.

Hofstra would tie the game in the seventh as Rouleau reached on a two-out error and came in to score on a double from Ford. But the Cardinals erupted for five runs in the bottom of the inning. Incarnate Word loaded the bases on a single, hit by pitch and a sacrifice fielder's choice before Aaron Warren drove in two runs with a double. The Cardinals would score a third run in the inning on a sacrifice fly and then after loading the bases once more, runs would come in on a hit batsman and a walk.

Harkey (0-2) took the loss for the Pride, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits in 1 1/3 innings. Tebbit allowed two hits and two runs in 4 2/3 innings in the no decision. David Leiderman led Hofstra with three hits, while Ford and Rouleau each contributed two hits.

Alex Shaffer (1-0) picked up the win in relief for Incarnate Word, throwing 1 1/3 scoreless ball.

The Pride return to action Wednesday, March 12 at Rutgers. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
