WSOC: Scolarici Named Second-Team Senior All-American

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra forward Sam Scolarici was named to the Senior All-American second team, it was announced today.

Scolarici, who set Hofstra's all-time goals and points record this season, was one of 10 finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, which was awarded to Seattle University forward Stephanie Verdoia.

Scolarici made the second team along with Alabama State's Kylee Hathaway, Manhattan's Aislinn  McIlvenny, Montana's Brooke Moody and West Virginia's Kate Schwindel.

Verdoia, UCLA's Sarah Killion, Eastern Michigan's Emily Dzik, South Carolina's Sabrina D'Angelo and Colgate's Caroline Brawner were first-team picks.

Earlier in the day, Scolarici was named to the All-Mid-Atlantic third-team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Scolarici ended her collegiate career by tying teammate Leah Galton for the Colonial Athletic Association lead in goals with 17. She finished one point behind Galton for the conference's high mark by registering 37 points in 21 games. Last month, she earned her second consecutive All-CAA first-team selection and set program career records for goals (50) and points (108) and was the first player in program history to crack triple digits for points.

The Aldie, Virginia native ended her career with three consecutive double-digit goal campaigns, including a school single-season record of 18 goals in 2013.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring.
