WBB: Hofstra Heads To Boston College For Sunday Matinee

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra will be coming off a 10-day break but still looking to feed off a three-game winning streak when the Pride travels to face ACC-member Boston College on Sunday at 12 p.m. from the Silvio O. Conte Forum.

Free live audio of the game can be heard via Pride Productions as well as locally on WRHU (88.7 FM). Boston College will offer live video of the game as well.

Hofstra (6-3) has not lost in the month of December after defeating back-to-back defending-conference champions in Albany and Robert Morris before notching a convincing win over NJIT. Boston College is coming off an 80-63 home win over New Hampshire. While the team is 6-4 overall, the Eagles are 3-1 at home this season.

Freshman Ashunae Durant has helped Hofstra post its best start since the 2011-12 squad began 7-2. Durant, a native of Newark, New Jersey, has won the last two Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week awards as well as her first career conference Player of the Week accolade. She earned the honor on Dec. 15 coming off a season-high 20 points with nine rebounds in front of her hometown family and friends at NJIT's Fleischer Athletic Center.

Durant is one of three Hofstra players to average in double figures at 11.3 points-per-game. Leading scorer Elo Edeferioka tops the list at 11.8 PPG and is nearly averaging a double-double with 9.9 rebounds per game. The sophomore forward is shooting 53.2 percent from the field and has nine blocks without fouling out once.

Sophomore Kelly Loftus is riding the best three-game streak of her career after scoring at least 15 points in three of the team's wins during the hot streak. Loftus, who was the CAA Player of the Week on Dec. 8 after scoring a career-high 25 points against Albany, notched 15 points over NJIT thanks in part to going 5-for-7 on three-point attempts. Hofstra is 5-0 when Loftus scores in double figures.

Hofstra has been adept at holding on to leads with Head Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey's team 6-0 when leading at halftime. All six of the team's victories have featured the Pride limiting opponents to fewer than 60 points.

That stingy defense will be tested by a good-shooting Boston College offense. A pair of three-point threats has helped the Eagles average 73 points per game. Leading-scorer Kelly Hughes has knocked down 27 three-pointers and leads the team with a 15.3 points-per-game average as well as hauling in 7.4 rebounds.

Nicole Boudreau is the only other BC player to average in double figures with a 12.8 PPG figure thanks in part to 26 three-pointers and a 44.1 percent shooting average beyond the arc.

The Pride is 0-2 in the all-time series against Boston College, including an 80-62 hom loss last season. Sydni Epps registered nine points and nine rebounds in that game.

The game will mark the second time Hofstra has played at Boston College. The team's only previous trip to Chestnut Hill came in a 71-60 loss in the second game of the 2008-09 campaign.
