Hempstead, NY - Towson scored 10 runs in the first four
innings en route to a 14-8 win over Hofstra Sunday afternoon. The win completed
a three-game sweep for Towson.
Hofstra fell to 4-14 overall and 0-6 in the Colonial Athletic
Association with the loss. Towson improved to 11-7, 4-2 in the CAA with the
win.
The Tigers scored three times in the first, knocking Pride
starter Dave Jesch out of the game after 2/3 of an inning. Jesch (1-1) allowed
one hit, three walks and hit a batter in his outing. Kurt Wertz delivered the
big blow in the inning, a two-run double.
The Pride got a run back in their half of the inning as TJ Ehrsam singled and went to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Jared Hammer delivered the first of his two RBI doubles on the day.
But Towson would score twice in the second and three more
times in the third to build a 8-1 lead. Hofstra would score three times in the
third as Hammer had an RBI double and Matt Reistetter delivered an RBI single,
and later scored on the front end of a double steal.
Towson would not let the Pride get closer than four as it
scored two more runs in the fourth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to
extend to a 13-5 lead. Hofstra scratched out three runs in the seventh as
Ehrsam and Brent Hall delivered RBI singles.
Hammer finished the day 2-3 with three RBIs as he also added
a sacrifice fly. Ehrsam had three hits , a run and an RBI.
Wertz finished with four RBIs for Towson, as did Zach
Fisher. Fisher had three hits on the day to lead the Tiger offense. Mike Ryan
(5-1) picked up the win in relief, allowing three hits and two earned runs.
The Pride return to action this Wednesday at Fordham.
