Bakersfield, CA - Jonathan Montoya limited Hofstra to two
hits over six innings as CSU Bakersfield posted a 5-1 victory over Hofstra in
the series finale at Hardt Field Sunday afternoon. The teams split the
four-game set.
Hofstra fell to 2-6 on the season with the loss, while CSU
Bakersfield improved to 4-3.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as
Dylan Christensen led off the game with a walk and came in on a double by Tyler
Shyrock. After two infield outs, Garrett Pierce knocked in Shyrock with a
single to right.
The Pride got a run back in the second as Jared Hammer led
off with a single and eventually got to third due to a pair of Roadrunner
errors. Matt Reistetter then drove in the run with a ground out to second. But
that would be the only run Hofstra would muster and CSU Bakersfield tacked on a
run in the fifth and two in the seventh to take a 5-1 lead.
Montoya (1-0) did walk five in his six innings, but allowed
just one unearned run. Jonathan Barragan followed with two innings of one-hit
relief before Christensen moved from right field to pitch the ninth.
Hofstra starter Jared Rogers (0-1) allowed eight hits and
two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. In addition to Hammer, Kenny Jackson and
Dalton Rouleau had the other Hofstra hits.
Christensen and Pierce both had three hits for CSU
Bakersfield, while Shyrock two doubles. Pierce also drove in two runs.
Hofstra is slated to be back in action this Wednesday,
February 27, when it hosts Post (CT) University in the Pride's home opener at
University Field. Game time is 3 p.m.
