WCC: Pride End Season At ECAC Meet Saturday

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Women's Cross Country team will wrap up its 2013 season this Saturday, November 23 at the ECAC University Division Meet at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, NY. The 5K race begins at 12:15 p.m.

Saturday's meet will mark the final meet for three Hofstra seniors, Long Island native Jacklyn McKnight (North Massapequa, NY) and co-captains Kristin Mathis (Williamstown, NJ) and Brittney Towner (Rocky River, OH).

Division I schools from around the region will compete in the final cross country event of the season before Monday's NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Indiana. Last year, 19 teams and more than 175 runners competed in the ECAC University Division Meet at Van Cortlandt Park. Sacred Heart University captured the team championship in the meet, finishing with 73 points, while George Mason University placed second with 120 points. Fordham University was third with 124 points. Hofstra finished in 19th place with 453 points. The individual champion was George Mason sophomore Bethany Sachtleben, who posted a time of 18:04.

Hofstra was paced by Becky Celorio, who placed 47th in 19:45 in last year's ECAC Meet. Cara Mattson ended her career with a 92nd-place finish in 20:25. Kristin Mathis was Hofstra's third runner, placing 117th in 20:56 while Lisa Eberwein was the Pride's fourth runner, clocking a time of 21:23 to place 135th. Eva Holtermann was Hofstra final scoring runner, placing 137th in 21:32. Three Pride juniors rounded out the meet as Brittney Towner was 146th in 21:51, Jacklyn McKnight was 155th in 22:30 and Elizabeth Jerome was 173rd in 24:45.

Last week, Hofstra placed 35th-place at the 2013 NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Championship at Van Cortland Park. Sophomore Becky Celorio recorded a personal-best time in the 6K time of 22:28 to place 113th. Her time was also the seventh-best 6K time in school history. She also led the Pride team for the sixth time in seven meets this season and for the 13th time in 14 meets during her career.

Senior co-captains Kristin Mathis and Brittney Towner followed Celorio on the Pride team. Mathis posted a time of 24:32 to place 217th while Towner clocked a time of 24:40 to finish 222nd. Junior Eva Holtermann (Staten Island, NY) was the Pride's fourth finisher in 24:51, good for 226th place. Sophomore Lisa Eberwein (Coatesville, PA) placed 232nd in 25:31 while senior Jacklyn McKnight was 236th in 25:43.

Hofstra finished with 1010 points. Providence College captured the team championship with 44 points. Dartmouth was second with 84 points. Big Green senior Abby D'Agostino won the individual title in 19:48.
