WSOC: Pride Win Streak Stopped At Northeastern

Brookline, MA - Shayna Blackwood and Maria Lanyi scored for Northeastern, and Paige Burnett stopped all six shots on goal as the Huskies snapped Hofstra's seven-game win streak with a 2-0 victory Saturday night at Parsons Field.

Hofstra (8-4-0, 2-1-0 CAA) held a 12-9 advantage in shots, but could not put one past Burnett as the Pride suffered their first shutout loss of the season.

The Huskies scored all they would need at the 21:52 mark as Oksana Nicholls sent a free kick, which Morgan Hilby touch passed to Blackwood. The defender's shot beat Pride keeper Emily Morphitis for the 1-0 lead. Northeastern would add an insurance goal at the 73:29 mark as Maria Lanyi notched her first goal of the season off a crossing pass from Hilby.

The Northeastern defense stymied the Pride offense in the second half, limiting Hofstra to just four shots in the final 45 minutes. Caylin Dudley led the Pride with six shots, while Leah Galton added three. Morphitis made two saves.

The game marked the start of a stretch of four consecutive road games for the Pride, who return to action Friday night at Delaware.
