FH: Boileau's Goal Tips Yale, 1-0

9/8/2012 8:24:00 PM

New Haven, CT - Sophomore Jonel Boileau scored 3:20 into the contest and junior goalie Kaitlyn De Turo made it stand up as the Hofstra Pride defeated the Yale Bulldogs, 1-0 at Ellen Ryan Field Saturday afternoon. The Pride, who won their second consecutive game, improved to 4-1 on the year. Yale fell to 1-2.

Boileau, a second-year forward from Kelowna, BC, Canada, tallied her seventh goal of the season and second game-winning tally of the season, beating Yale goalie Emily Cain at the 3:20 mark of the game. The Pride put the pressure on the Bulldogs early in the first half forcing two saves by Cain and a defensive save by Molly Wolf in the first 21 minutes. But Yale was getting their shots as well with De Turo making three of her seven saves in the game coming in the first 35 minutes.

Despite the penalty corners being close at 6-5 in favor of Yale in the second half, Yale took the upper hand in the period, outshooting the Pride, 14-5 in the final 35 minutes including 12 shots in the final 20. But the Hofstra defense blocked eight shots in the final 20 minutes and De Turo (South Setauket, NY) made two of her four saves of the half in the final 20 minutes to hold onto the victory and record her second shutout of the season.

Yale outshot the Pride in the contest 21-12 and had eight penalty corners to Hofstra's five. Yale junior Erica Borgo led all players with five shots while Pride senior midfielder Micaela Gallagher fired four shots including two on goal.

Hofstra's victory on Saturday snapped a five-game losing skid by the Pride to the Bulldogs. Prior to today, Hofstra had not defeated Yale since a 3-1 victory in 2000. Yale leads the series, 15-6.

The Pride return to action on Sunday (Sept. 9) when they come home to the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium for a non-conference contest against the Rider Broncs (2-1). Game time is 1 p.m.
