Philadelphia, PA - Sophomore Jonel Boileau scored a career-high three goals and junior Kaitlyn De Turo made eight saves to lead the Hofstra Pride to a 5-1 non-conference victory over the Saint Joseph's Hawks at Ellen Ryan Field Sunday afternoon. The Pride improved to 3-1 on the year while the Hawks fell to 1-2.

Boileau (Kelowna, BC, Canada) scored once in the first half and twice in the second to top her previous best of two goals set in the season opener against Fairfield. Senior defenders Codi Nyland (Washington, NJ) and Melissa McCarthy (Havertown, PA) each tallied their first goals of the season for the Pride. Junior goalie Kaitlyn De Turo (South Setauket, NY) recorded eight saves to post her third win of the season.

The Hawks of Saint Joseph's scored the first goal of the contest just 6:22 into the game as senior Jordan Cotter notched her first of the season off a pass across the circle from freshman Aniek Koman.

The Pride put heavy pressure on the Hawks only to be stymied by junior goalie Kate Mitchell, who posted nine of her 15 saves in the first half, and her defense which made two defensive saves in the contest.

But Hofstra broke through and tied the game at the 18:59 mark as Boileau notched her first of the day and fourth of the year off a pass from freshman Charlotte Loehr (Mainz, Germany). It was Loehr's first point of her collegiate career. Hofstra outshot St. Joe's, 15-5 in the first half but the score was tied at 1-1 at halftime.

Nyland broke the tie for Hofstra just 2:51 into the second half, picking up a rebound of a defensive save by senior Meghan Githens, off a shot by Hofstra sophomore Holly Andrews (Afton, NY), and beat Mitchell for a 2-1 lead. It was Nyland's first goal of the year and third of her career.

Senior defender Melissa McCarthy made it 3-1 for the Pride at the 45:13 mark, tipping in a Boileau shot for the first goal of her career.

Almost 10 minutes later, Boileau notched her second of the game, picking up a loose ball and lifting the ball over a fallen Mitchell for a 4-1 advantage. Boileau completed the hat-trick on a breakaway with 7:54 to play in the contest and the 5-1 final. The shots were closer in the second half with Hofstra having a 12-8 shot advantage with De Turo making seven saves and Mitchell stopping five in the period.

Hofstra outshot St. Joe's, 27-13 in the contest while the Hawks had six penalty corners to the Pride's two. Hofstra's five goals on Sunday are the Pride's second game with five or more goals this season and gthe seventh in the past two seasons.

The Pride return to action next Saturday, September 8 when they travel to New Haven, CT to face the Bulldogs of Yale at 1:00 p.m.
