Louisville, Ky. - Five Hofstra Softball players were
named 2012 All-America Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches
Association.
Olivia Galati, Courtney Crews, Nicole Osovski, Lindsey Reid and Rachael Senatore earned the honor. According to the NFCA, the award is bestowed upon any player submitted by a member
coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2011-12
academic year. The membership category with the most participating
institutions this year proved to be Division I with 140.
Crews graduated in the spring after helping Hofstra to a
42-15 record as the Pride made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Super
Regionals. The former catcher was named
an assistant softball coach at East
Carolina earlier this month.
The fourth other honorees will all be on the Hofstra roster
for 2013. Galati pitched every inning in the postseason for the Pride, helping
Hofstra earn the Colonial Athletic Association championship before helping the
Pride capture the NCAA Los Angeles Regional.
Galati added another academic honor to her resume as the West
Babylon, N.Y. native is a two-time Colonial Athletic Association's
Scholar-Athlete of the Year in softball. The physical education major went 34-7
with a Division I-best 0.95 ERA while becoming the first Hofstra player to win
first-team NFCA All-America accolades. In the classroom, Galati posted a
cumulative 3.57 grade-point average.
Osovski served as Hofstra's regular first baseman in starting
41 of the 44 games in which she played. Reid was a dependable pinch hitter for
the Pride, driving in two runs while adding two runs scored. Senatore was the offensive
catalyst as Hofstra's leadoff hitter, posting a .364 batting average while
driving in 22 runs. She finished the season with a .429 on-base percentage and
38 runs scored.
